GEORGE TOWN: The state government received 15 Toyota Camry 2.5 for use by its state executive councillors and senior officers.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng arrived in one of the Camrys with the PG1 number plate at Komtar on Thursday to officially hand over the car keys to some of the councillors, including Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy, Penang state secretary Datuk Farizan Darus and State Financial Officer Datuk Mokhtar Jait.
The State Legislative Speaker and State Legal Adviser are also entitled to the new cars.
Lim said the state spent RM113,500 on each car and some of the old official cars would be passed to other state departments or sold off.
It was reported that the previous fleet of six Mercedes Benz and nine Proton Perdana V6 executive cars are between 12 and 21 years old.
