KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will go on a working visit to London and Manchester from Oct 27 to 31 to attend the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF).
The 9th WIEF will be held in London on Oct 29-31 in collaboration with the United Kingdom Government and the WIEF Foundation of Malaysia.
Najib will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor; International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim; Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin and officials from relevant government ministries and agencies.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Najib who is also the Patron of WIEF will deliver a keynote address during the opening ceremony and will host the leaders luncheon and a Gala Dinner for participants of the Forum.
"On the second day, the Prime Minister will deliver a speech at an event organised by the Malaysian Innovation Agency (AIM) and will also hold a series of meetings with local and international business communities," the statement said.
The Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister David Cameron and other Heads of State/Government who are attending the 9th WIEF.
Sixteen Heads of State/Government as well as 2,000 participants have confirmed their participation to the WIEF which carries the theme "Changing the World, New Relationship".
The statement said Najib will visit Manchester to attend the 1Malaysia For Youth (1M4U) volunteer programme as well as to meet Malaysians living in Manchester.
"Najib and Rosmah will also take the opportunity to attend the 1Malaysia Deepavali Celebration, organised by the Malaysian community in London," the statement said.
WIEF, which was established when Malaysia hosted the 10th Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit in 2003, provides a world class business platform showcasing business opportunities in the Muslim world. - Bernama
