IPOH: The police officer who was cleaning his revolver when it went off hitting a 10-year-old boy in the neck during the Hari Raya Haji holidays is still on active duty.
Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk A. Paramasivam said the officer, who is with the Taiping district police, would not be suspended or assigned to desk duty while investigations were still ongoing.
"The benefit of doubt must be given to both sides," he said.
The bullet hit Mohd Amar Mohd Azizi who was playing outside his house in Kampung Belanja Kiri, Parit, at about 4.30am last Monday.
He was rushed to the Parit healthcare clinic before he was transferred to the Batu Gajah Hospital where it was discovered that the bullet was lodged near the throat.
The boy was later brought to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here where the bullet was successfully removed on Sunday.
