Chua: Move to censure Liow was not personal

KUALA LUMPUR: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek has reiterated that the move to censure Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was not personal and the only "winner" from this was the party.

Dr Chua said the first resolution in the coming MCA extraordinary general meeting (EGM) to censure Liow, who is deputy president, was not made out of vengeance.

"This resolution is not meant to blame Liow for the party's poor performance in the general election (GE).

"I have said that I, as president, have to take some responsibility. But he is the chairman of the general election preparation committee.

"It was his duty to understand the 127 parliamentary and state seats contested by the MCA in the GE," he told reporters at Wisma MCA here Thursday.

However, Dr Chua said out of the 127  constituencies, Liow had only visited "not more than 10" in the past three and a half years.

He said the resolution would send a strong message to future MCA leaders to take their duties responsibly.

"If the resolution is passed, nobody is a winner. The only winner is the MCA. Not Chua Soi Lek," he said, adding that the move to censure Liow also made the party more democratic whereby central delegates had the right to vote for leaders as well as criticise them.
