PETALING JAYA: One is an accomplished professional, another is a popular artiste and yet another is a pretty mother of four who makes heads turn wherever she goes.
But make no mistake, these three candidates contesting in the Puteri Umno elections are all accomplished and highly capable women.
Datin Norsabrina Mohd Noor, who is contesting the number two post in Puteri Umno, can be proud of her professional achievements – she served as the chief executive of not one but five Kedah state-linked companies.
The 34-year-old, who is Bandar Baharu assemblyman and a Kedah exco member, is a biologist by training and started her career as an executive in Kulim Technology Management Sdn Bhd and was later appointed as the managing director for Kedah BioResources Sdn Bhd.
“Even when Kedah fell to Pakatan Rakyat after the 2008 polls, the late Mentri Besar Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak decided to retain me to head the company,” she said.
In 2009, Norsabrina headed south to Malacca after being “wooed” by former Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam to lead several state companies.
“Wearing many different hats at one time is both challenging and exciting. I am lucky to have been given the opportunity which not everyone can claim to have experienced,” said the mother of two, who is grateful to have a supportive husband and strong support from her family in bolstering her to advance in her professional career and in politics.
Aiming for the top post is Jamilah Hanim Othman, an attractive woman with the ability to turn heads wherever she goes.
The 38-year-old mother of four, who is contesting for the Puteri chief’s post says she would rather that people notice her work.
“When people get to know me, they will realise that I am firm and speak my mind. Some are surprised by this, maybe because of my outlook and think I’m demure,” said the Puteri exco member and the Umno Petaling Jaya Selatan Puteri chief.
As for Anne Ngasri, among the hats she wears are as an actress, celebrity, product ambassador and television host. Now, the popular and multi-talented personality is trying her hand in politics.
The 29-year-old, who is vying for the Bukit Bintang Puteri chief’s post, said she is excited to be a part of the party elections.
Despite not being able to actively “promote” herself as she recently gave birth to a baby boy, the mother of five has relied on her election machinery to reach out to delegates.
“This is an exciting time for me. Whatever the outcome, I will cherish the experience of participating in an election, albeit just at the divisional level,” she said.
Anne draws strength and inspiration from her family, particularly her husband Mohd Sumali Reduan, who is Umno Youth executive secretary.
Her elder sister and fellow actress Nasreen, popularly known as Darling, is helping her with the campaign.
