KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's World Press Freedom ranking, which saw a drop from the 122th to 145th spot last year, was partly due to the safety concern among reporters during the coverage of Bersih 2.0 protest, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.
He told the Dewan Rakyat that the drop of ranking was not due to political control by the Government but the incident where some media personnel were allegedly assaulted by demonstrators during the Bersih 2.0 street demonstration which had affected Malaysia's ranking in the report, which surveyed some 179 countries by the Reporters Without Borders.
