PETALING JAYA: Election Commission will decide on Sungai Limau by-election once it receive an official notification letter from Kedah state assembly speaker on the vacancy following the death of its assemblyman Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak."We will wait for an official letter together with a letter from the hospital to confirm there is a vacancy in the constituency.
"Only then we can convene a meeting to fix the date on the by-election which is to be held within 60 days," EC Deputy Chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar told the Star Online.
Sg Limau state assembly fell vacant following the death of Azizan, who is also a former Kedah mentri besar this morning at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
On Wednesday, Azizan, 69, who was with Pas, was reported to be in a critical condition after a heart attack at the hospital.
In May, his legs were amputated below the knee due to complications from chronic diabetes.
His death will pave way for a second by-election after the May 5 general election.
The first one was in Kuala Besut, Terengganu held in July following the death of its two-term assemblyman Dr A Rahman Mokhtar of Umno.
