Former Kedah MB Azizan dies (Updated)


ALOR SETAR: Ailing former Kedah MB Azizan Abdul Razak passed away at 11.10am on Thursday in the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.

Deputy Director 1 Dr Norzaini Murad said Azizan, 69, died at the hospital intensive care unit surrounded by his family members.

Hospital director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie is scheduled to hold a press conference at 1pm on Thursday.

Azizan’s condition had been weakening since 1am Wednesday and he suffered a heart attack at 3am.

He became unconscious and was put under close observation. 

Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir stopped short his speech when opening the Kedah Farmers Organisation Board to announce that Azizan had passed away after he received a message about his death.

He also asked the attendees to recite 'Alfatihah' for Azizan.

Mukhriz said although Azizan is from a different political party, he holds great respect for Azizan, who is the former state Mentri Besar.

It is learnt that Azizan would be buried at Muasasah Darul Ulum later today.
