KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu is officially free of serious crimes, secret societies and syndicates as of now, Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Saturday.

This, he said, was based on the Ops Cantas conducted by the Terengganu police which recorded no cases involving illegal gambling, prostitution syndicates, illegal moneylenders or secret societies.

"The four aspects are crucial to determine Terengganu's crime index. There are cases, but they are isolated cases and do not involve syndicates," he added.

Speaking at a media conference after visiting the Terengganu police contingent headquarters here, Ahmad Zahid said he was satisfied with the performance of the Terengganu police in addressing criminal activities through the Special Ops Cantas.

Despite the state being free of serious crimes, Ahmad Zahid said the police should be at the ready at all times.

He said 15 operations were conducted in Terengganu and checks were conducted on 2,880 individuals, resulting in 32 arrests.

Only a sword and a pen-knife were seized, he added. - Bernama
