Khairy asks opposition to name shadow cabinet

KOTA KINABALU: Opposition parties have once again been challenged to name their shadow cabinet as proof their preparedness in forming Government, this time by Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said.

He said the opposition had continuously avoided the matter despite repeated calls to do so by the ruling Barisan Nasional.

"Now even some opposition leaders are asking the shadow cabinet to be revealed. So they should do so without any more delay," Khairy said after launching a community sports carnival at Putatan near here.

He was responding to PAS Youth chief Nasrudin Hassan who had voiced his hope of seeing the opposition alliance's shadow cabinet to prove to the people they were the government in-waiting.

The Temerloh MP said he wouldn't want an opposition that merely opposes or criticises the government's every move or plays up rhetoric.

Khairy said the opposition should be more responsible.

"Enough excuses from the opposition. They keep claiming all sorts of things including not being provided enough facilities. Just apply to Parliament for what they need," he added.

"I am sure Parliament would have no problem meeting their requests. The real issue I think is that there are worries of internal bickering. For example if the finance portfolio is given to DAP, there will be rumblings from the PAS and PKR ranks," Khairy said.

"At the end of the day, I believe the opposition prefer the status quo and are not naming the shadow cabinet to avoid commitment," he added.
