PETALING JAYA: Move on from blaming the Chinese for May 13, said Datuk Chua Tee Yong.

Instead, the MCA Young Professionals Bureau Chief said all Malaysians should work together to ensure unity is maintained.

He referred to Nazri’s comments on the movie Tanda Putera last week, where he made sweeping statements about the Chinese community and how the May 13, 1969, riots were sparked by a few individuals from the community.

“Although Datuk Seri Nazri is entitled to his personal views, his statements made in the capacity of a leader should not be hurtful or offensive to others, especially those of a particular race,” Chua said.

Nazri, meanwhile, clarified that he had not blamed the Chinese for May 13, adding that Tanda Putera film was well-researched and could not understand the backlash it received.

He insisted that he had not accused the Chinese, noting that those who knew him well enough would know that he would not have said it.
