KUALA LUMPUR: Prisons Department director-general Datuk Zulkifli Omar confirmed that C/Insp Azilah Hadri left Kajang Prison at 11.45am after completing the documentation process while Kpl Sirul Azhar Umar was released from Tapah Prison.
"Azilah returned from the Putrajaya Court of Appeal for some documentation process and to collect his belongings before leaving the prison with his family," he said when contacted.
Earlier today, the Putrajaya Court of Appeal overturned the conviction and acquitted Azilah and Sirul of the charge of murdering Mongolian national Altantuya Shaariibuu seven years ago.
A panel of three judges, Datuk Seri Mohamed Apandi Ali, Datuk Linton Albert and Datuk Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat unanimously set aside the death sentence imposed by the Shah Alam High Court after allowing the duo's appeal against the conviction and sentence. - Bernama
