Kamalanathan joins constituents for sahur

BUKIT BERUNTUNG: Despite the early hour, more than a hundred residents from Jalan Daisi here gathered Sunday to enjoy sahur together before many leave for their respective kampung.

Organised by Persatuan Rukun Tetangga Daisi, both Muslims and non-Muslims in the area attended.

To the excitement of many, Hulu Selangor MP P. Kamalanathan joined the festivities as early as 4am and interacted with the residents.

"Many years ago, we did not have many racial problems. We used to live together united but now this is lacking.

"These kinds of programmes help to bring the community together and create a more united community that respects each other," said Kamalanathan, who is also Deputy Education Minister II.

Association president Mohd Rizwan Zainal Abidin, 39, said that the event began with breaking of fast and distribution of lambuk the previous night and continued with sahur.

"We have received tremendous support from the residents. It was a pot luck event and it created a better community bond between the residents," he said.

The residents association was only started two months ago after a series of break ins in a single day.

"Nine houses were broken into in a day. That is when we decided to form the association which is also actively involved in community policing," he said.
