GEORGE TOWN: At least 15 gamblers jumped into the open sea when police raided a fisherman’s shack that has been turned into a gambling den near Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway in Jelutong here.

The gamblers apparently waited until the police had left the area before they swam back to the shore.

However, six of them, aged between 31 and 55, were not so lucky.

They were nabbed later during a follow-up operation at 11pm on Friday.

Police also seized, among others, RM3,930 and a set of playing cards from them.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Gan Kong Meng said police were investigating the case under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act.

“This is the second time we have busted the den, which is located behind a restaurant,” he said.

“We hope the public will provide us with information so that we can crack down on such activities.”
