Restaurant manager’s DNA found on 13-year-old girl he allegedly raped

Riduan Masmud.

KOTA KINABALU:  The DNA of a 40-year-old restaurant manager, charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, was found on a vaginal swab taken from the schoolgirl whom he later married.
Chemist Rina Mohd Nawi told the Sessions Court Judge Ummu Kalthom Samad that the DNA of both Riduan Masmud and that of the girl were found on the cotton swab that was sent for analysis at the Kuching Chemist Serology Lab on May 29.
The traces were found in the lower vaginal swab while she did find any traces of semen or blood from upper vaginal swabs.
"There were however no traces of blood found in any of the 11 exhibits sent from the Kota Kinabalu chemist department to the lab for DNA analysis," she said while testifying in the second day of Masmud’s trial on Tuesday.
Rina also confirmed that the traces of semen found on two handkerchiefs and the seat cover were from Riduan.
She said other items - including two strands of hair, nail clippings and blood samples - were sent to the lab in Kuching for DNA tests as the lab in Kota Kinabalu could not test for DNA.
She said the 11 items  tendered as exhibits in court were analysed on May 30 and returned to one ASP Rosli on June 22.
Riduan is charged on Feb 28 under Section 376 of the Penal Code for raping the schoolgirl inside a car near a waterfall at Inanam here at about 10am on Feb 18 this year.
On May 7, Riduan reportedly took the girl as his second wife under Syariah law in a move to drop the criminal charges against him.
He faces between five to 20 years imprisonment and whipping if convicted.
