KLANG: A 53-year-old man was sentenced to 12 years in jail and two strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here after he was found guilty of sodomising and forcing oral sex on a five-year-old girl who his wife was looking after.

Nor Hashim Wan Chik was guilty of committing the offences at a room in his house at Jalan Sungai Bertek, Lingkungan Serampang Kawasan 7 here.

In his judgement, Judge Ahmad Fairuz Mohd Puzi said Nor Hashim’s defence was merely a bare denial.

“There were only two defence witnesses who took the stand. The accused and his wife had contradictions in their testimonies,” he said yesterday.

Among the contradictions was that Nor Hashim had claimed to work as a marketing manager in his in-law’s company while the wife testified that he was unemployed.

Ahmad Fairuz said the accused also claimed that he had scolded the girl’s family for picking her up late in the evening.

“However, this issue was never brought up during the prosecution stage nor was it ever brought up to the police during investigation,” he said.

The sentences are to run from the date of arrest on June 7, last year.

During the trial, the court heard that the girl, who is now six, had been invited into Nor Hashim’s room while his wife was busy with chores in the house.

After the incident, the girl told her mother that she did not want to go to the babysitter’s house anymore because baba (the accused) made her “do things”.

She also complained of pain in her private parts, prompting the mother to lodge a police report.

DPP Nor Azilah Mat prosecuted while the accused was represented by G.S. Mani.
