PETALING JAYA: The Deputy Speakers for the 13th Parliament term will most likely be incumbent Datuk Ronald Kiandee and Kuala Krau MPDatuk Ismail Mohamed Said.

Sources said that Barisan would put forth both names.

Barisan lawmakers also said that an Opposition MP would never be picked as Speaker or Deputy Speaker due to concerns they would allow motions like a vote of no-confidence to pass.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had earlier suggested Tumpat MP Kamarudin Jaffar be given the role of Deputy Speaker.

"BN will never allow this," a coalition insider told The Star Online.

If picked, this will be Kiandee's second term as Deputy Speaker.

Santubong MP Datuk Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, the former second Deputy Speaker, is now Deputy Home Minister and cannot continue in the role.

Current Parliament Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia will remain as Dewan Rakyat speaker for the upcoming 13th Parliamentary term.

Parliament will convene on June 24 and is expected to be extremely dynamic and fiery due to a strong Opposition presence.

Pakatan currently holds 89 seats, seven more than after the 2008 elections, while Barisan has 133 seats.
