ALOR GAJAH: Undang Luak Naning, a customary chieftain in Malacca, is handing out scores of unrecognised Datukships and other titles to people. And he is complaining that a rival chieftain is handing out “fake” titles.

Dato’ Seri Raja Merah Dato’ Abdul Latif Hashim, who is recognised by the state as the chieftain under the Adat Perpatih system, defended his move to organise an investiture ceremony where titles were conferred on 42 recipients at his official residence here recently.
