KUALA LUMPUR: A businessman claimed trial in the Session Court on Monday over accusations of using false documents over a land deal worth RM15mil.
Datuk S. Charan Dass, 59 was charged with dishonestly being a party in transfer of ownership transaction of a lot of land in Section 58, here, that used false statements regarding the ownership on July 2 2007.
He was slapped with a second charge of using a fraudulent document purportedly from the Attorney-Genenal's Chambers, on July 16 2009.
Both offences are alleged to have been committed at the offices of the Federal Territories Land and Mines Department (PTG), Rumah Persekutuan on Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin, here.
DPP Noor Zalina Lazarous applied to the court to have the charges be heard in a single trial as they involved the same transaction and would call upon the same witnesses.
She requested that bail be set at RM100,000 for each charges considering the land deal involved RM15mil.
Counsel Mohd Shafee Abdullah asked that bail be lowered as PTG deputy registrar Mohammad Irwan Adnan who had been charged in relation to the same plot of land was allowed bail at RM10,000.
Mohammad Irwan had claimed trial earlier this year to falsifying a collateral to make it appear that the plot of land belonged to Revenue Beam (M) Sdn Bhd.
It was learnt that Charan had attempted to purchase the plot of land from Revenue Beam.
Mohd Shafee told the court that his client would be filing a suit against the PTG for total negligence, recklessness and fraud with regards to the matter.
He added that the law suit would be to recover the land and money Judge Murtazadi Amran set bail at RM50,000 with one surety for both charges and fixed June 26 for next mention.
