More divers join in search for survivors in boat tragedy

SIBU: More rescuers have arrived in search for survivors after a boat capsized in the middle of the Balui river on Tuesday.

Sibu fire officer Chong Bui Chyan said 13 men and an officer the department's Sibu and Kanowit offices are helping out the search Wednesday with five units of 4WD vehicles. It is learnt that four men and a 4WD vehicle had also arrived from Miri.

Among them are seven divers from Sibu and three from Miri.

The personnel will attempt to lift the capsized boat using a tugboat in search of the survivors.

According to the latest information at the operation centre in the Belaga district office, there were 184 passengers on the boat before it capsized.

Fourteen are still missing.
