THE Syariah courts system need to be reviewed to incorporate the best interests of a child when dealing with marriage applications of young girls aged below 16, says the Women’s Centre for Change.
WCC’s advocacy officer Melissa Mohd Akhir says the Syariah courts need to be sensitive to the vulnerabilities of these young brides-to-be, particularly if they are victims of statutory rape cases.
