Mural proves so popular, owner forced to whitewash it

GEORGE TOWN: An artist who painted a mural of a merry old couple on the wooden exterior wall of a house in Chew Jetty here has now covered it in white paint and obscuring it completely, ironically because of its popularity.

Simon Tan, 48, said he decided to do so after receiving complaints from residents that the boardwalk at the alley might give way due to the hordes of tourists who came to take photographs of the mural after it was highlighted in the media shortly after he completed it in early April.
