GE13: DAP’s Sim Tong Him withdraws as Independent candidate for Kota Laksamana

MALACCA: DAP candidate Sim Tong Him has withdrawn himself as an Independent candidate for Kota Laksamana.

He told a press conference on Monday that he will continue to contest the Kota Melaka parliamentary seat under the DAP.

“I am withdrawing myself from the race in Kota Laksamana and will fully back Lai Keun Ban, the candidate fielded by DAP,” he said told the press conference with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.

Sim will be meeting MCA's Dr Yee Kok Wah in Kota Melaka.

“I apologise to the electorate in Kota Melaka for my action and decided to retract my candidacy as an independent based on the desire of the grassroots,” he said adding that he was not pressured by any quarters on making the decision.

Lim declined to say if he had acted as a peace broker to mend the rift between Sim and Lai.
