PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has confirmed that DAP candidates can still use its rocket logo and that the party should not place unnecessary blame.
“There is no need to kick a fuss and unfairly blame us,” said a ROS spokesman.
The ROS also confirmed that the DAP could use the rocket symbol, as the party had not been de-registered.
Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar said the DAP should not drag the EC into the matter.
“It is very irresponsible of DAP for blaming others for self-inflicted problems. DAP is under investigation for reports of party election irregularities lodged by its own members.
“Why drag others into their internal problem?” he asked.
Wan Ahmad said DAP was still welcome to use its rocket symbol.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, meanwhile, said DAP candidates could contest under the symbol of any party they wished.
He added that as long as the candidates had authorisation letters from the parties, there was no issue about using the symbols belonging to others.
“The (authorisation) letters are important because they want to use other symbols. So, as far as the EC is concerned, if they have it (authorisation letters) they can contest,” he said.
Abdul Aziz said he understood DAP's concern about using their own symbol after the ROS did not accord recognition to its office bearers following last year's party elections.
“Just bring the (authorisation) letters and there should not be any issue,” he said.
Wan Ahmad said the authorisation letters also need to have the official letterhead of the party that has allowed its symbol to be used by DAP candidates.
In Kluang, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang should refrain from blaming Barisan Nasional.
“Investigations were carried out after the ROS received reports lodged by DAP party members that questioned the legitimacy of the party's recent election and not by Barisan component parties,” said the vice-president of Umno.
