ALOR SETAR: Kedah DAP chairman Lee Guan Aik has been dropped as candidate for the elections and will not defend the Kota Darul Aman state seat.
He confirmed in a telephone call that another candidate had been named and he would retire in the interest of Pakatan Rakyat in Kedah.
Lee was said to be at odds with the central leadership due to his insistence in asking for DAP to contest more seats in Kedah.
Kedah DAP publicity chief Dr Lim Sin Keat, a local dentist, confirmed that the central leadership had proposed him as the candidate for the Kota Darul Aman state seat but he had yet to decide if he would stand.
"This is quite a surprise to me, I will meet with the local committee in Kedah and announce my decision on Friday," Dr Lim said in a telephone interview.
Meanwhile, Kedah Dapsy chairman Teoh Boon Kok has been proposed as the Derga state seat candidate.
Teoh did not confirm whether he would be contesting and said he would announce his decision on Friday.
