GE13: Malacca - Mohd Ali goes for parliament seat, Idris Haron tipped for CM post

MALACCA: Three-term Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam will move to the Bukit Katil parliamentary seat from the Bukit Baru state seat in the general election.

He is set to take on PKR Youth chief Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin in Bukit Katil. Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad chairman Datuk Idris Haron, who is tipped to take over from Mohd Ali, 64, as the chief minister, will move to the Sungai Udang state seat from the Tangga Batu parliamentary seat.

The list of the Barisan Nasional candidates, which included 15 new faces - three in parliamentary and 12 in state seats - was announced by Mohd Ali at the menteri besar residence here.

Most of the new faces are in their 30s.

Deputy Home Minister Datuk Abu Seman Yusop, a four-term MP for Masjid Tanah, was among nine incumbents dropped from the list.

The others were incumbent MP for Alor Gajah Tan Sri Dr Fong Chan Onn, three state executive councillors, namely Datuk R. Perumal (Asahan), Datuk Yaakub Md Amin (Sungai Udang) and Datuk Seet Har Cheow (Klebang), incumbent MP for Bukit Katil Datuk Md Sirat Abu, Paya Rumput assemblyman Datuk Tahir Hassan, Rim assemblyman Yazid Khamis, and Bemban assemblyman Chua Kheng Hua.

Malacca Puteri Umno chief Mas Ermieyati Samsudin will stand in Masjid Tanah, replacing Abu Seman.
