GOMBAK: The National Fatwa Council should issue an advisory to PAS spiritual leader Datuk Seri Nik Aziz Nik Mat preventing him from issuing fatwas (religious edicts) that could confuse Muslims and non-Muslims in the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
Muhyiddin, who is also Barisan deputy president, told reporters this at a press conference after launching the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia Excellence Awards ceremony here Tuesday.
He was asked to comment on the transfer of over 30 Islamic education clerics from Kelantan and Kedah who voiced their disapproval of Nik Aziz's recent edict against Umno and Barisan Nasional.
Nik Aziz's latest fatwa decreed that the prayers of Umno members would not receive any blessings.
Muhyiddin also said that Nik Aziz should not mix religion and politics to win support for the general election.
