KUALA LUMPUR: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale struck the Mariana Island region south of Japan at 9.31am Sunday.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department in a statement here said the earthquake epicentre was 2,124km southeast of Yokosuka, Japan and 3,448km northeast of Kinabatangan, Sabah.
