THE drought crisis in Dedan village in Amreli, north India, has even affected the lives of eligible bachelors in the village parents of would-be brides are calling off the engagements as they don't have the heart to let their daughters walk miles to get water for their new families. Tamil Nesan reported that parents of would-be brides had annulled engagements in the village of some 12,000 youths in the last two months as they did not want their daughters to walk at least 5km a day just to fetch drinking water (from tankers) a task usually allocated to wives. Malaysia Nanban reported that a 26-year-old tailor from Goregaon, north India, and his 24-year-old wife were arrested for selling her 12-year-old sister for Rs70,000 (RM3,981) for prostitution.
It was reported that Mohammed Darzi and Samina were caught red-handed while accepting the first instalment of Rs5,000 (RM285) from a buyer.
