PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia more than halved its poverty statistics over the past three years, bringing down the number of poor people to a little under 110,000 nationwide, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said Wednesday.
He said the achievement, made possible by the Government's efforts to raise the country's overall household income and keep inflation down, also brought down the overall poverty rate to 1.7% in 2012, compared with 3.8% in 2009.
