KUALA LUMPUR: Two Malaysians are heading for the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Prague.

This is made possible by their win at the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Fashion Awards Gala, which was held at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral.

Winners of the Emerging Designer of the Year (which went to Phuna Boon Yi) and Designer of the Year (Jovian Mandagie) will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in Prague in September.

Last night also saw The Star managing editor June H.L. Wong presenting the award for Make-up Artist of the Year to Lisa Yap and Hair Designer of the Year to Faevien Yee.

Other awards included Most Promising Designer of the Industry (Fairuz Ramdan), Best Designer Showcase (Tangoo), Best Male Model of the Year (Ahya Ulumuddin Rosli), Best Female Model of the Year (Rennee Chong) and Industry Award (Albert Chiang).

President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Malaysia Roland Folger said: “Since Mercedes-Benz Malaysia launched the World Fashion Exchange with Stylo during our anniversary two years ago, we have helped move the Malaysian fashion industry internationally.

“Through the Mercedes-Benz Stylo Fashion Awards Gala, we recognise the best players in the local fashion industry. We hope to continue to help unearth exceptional talents through this platform and to present them at international fashion weeks around the world.”

The night's showcase included designs by celebrated fashion brand from Prague, LaFormela, and opening the show was Czech supermodel Vanda Knapkova.

Designers Melinda Looi, Mandagie and fresh from Mexico City's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week debut, last year's Emerging Designer Mohd Hanif presented their creations as well.

The event was graced by Formula One safety driver Bernd Maylander.

Also in attendance were president and CEO of Stylo International Datuk Nancy Yeoh, Visa International country manager for Malaysia Stuart Tomlinson, Carlsberg Brewery Malaysia managing director Soren Ravn and Lai Voon Hon of Ireka Properties.

The awards night was followed by the launch for Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. The newly opened hotel is the venue for this year's Stylo fashion week.
