RESIDENTS of Pangsapuri Laksamana in Batu Caves are upset over the poor maintenance, resulting in frequent breakdown of the lifts.
Malaysia Nanban reported that residents had made numerous complaints to the management with no success.
“It is disheartening to see elderly and sick people walking up and down a 12-storey apartment,” said K. Palaniappan, 64, who has diabetes, high blood pressure and a thyroid problem.
Another resident, P. Sujatha, 36, said she has had a heart bypass and could not leave the unit when the lift broke down.
An odd-job labourer, T. Muthu, said he had been working part-time to clear rubbish and cut grass at the flats but stopped as he had not received payment.
> Makkal Osai reported the death of Rathi, the elephant which acted in MGR and Rajinikanth movies.
The jumbo, known for its gentle behaviour in the camp at Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR), took ill suddenly on Tuesday and died on Wednesday at 5.30pm.
Rathi was captured in 1941 when she was six years old. She helped train calves at the camp.
MTR deputy director A. Ameer Hazaor said Rathi was around 78 years old and the oldest surviving captive elephant in the country.
“Rathi acted with MGR in Nalla Neram and Rajinikanth in Annai Oru Alayam.
Rathi gave birth to 13 calves but took care of orphaned calves, too,” he said.
