KOTA BARU: In an about-turn, PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat now says it is not right for anyone worshipping “more than one god” to use the word “Allah”.
“Allah is the name used by Muslims for the one and only God. It is not right for others who worship more than one god to use the word.
“If they (non-Muslims) have more than one god, what is the reason for them to use Allah because Allah is One, the Supreme and He named Himself Allah,” he told reporters at the Sultan Ismail Petra airport on arrival from Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Nik Aziz, who is Kelantan Mentri Besar, was commenting on the decision of the PAS Syura Council on Sunday that the word “Allah” should not be used for God in any non-Muslim publication.
Nik Aziz had earlier supported Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's call for the Federal Government to allow the use of Allah in the Bahasa Malaysia version of the Christian bible.
Asked why PAS leaders were divided on the Syura Council's decision, Nik Aziz said: “I do not know about that but I am sure that those who want to use Allah's name must attest that Allah is One and if other religions believe in more than one God it is not right for them to use Allah's name.”
