YAN: The Kedah PAS-led state government will take responsibility for any impact brought about by logging activities in the state.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak said the state understood the consequences and had prepared for them.

He said the state logged within the stipulated area as allowed by the Federal Government.

“The state government is allowed to log in 2,800ha of land per year and we abided by this. The Forestry Department marks the trees that can be cut,” he said at the ground-breaking ceremony of a housing development project in Dulang Besar yesterday.

Azizan was commenting on a statement by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, calling on the state government to take responsibility for any negative impact brought about by its logging activities.
