KOTA KINABALU: Two brothers were among five people killed when their car collided with a lorry in Beluran district.
All died on the spot in the accident at a junction of Ladang Muncul Maju along Jalan Nangoh Paitan, about 250km from Sandakan, at 10.40pm on Monday.
Beluran district police chief Deputy Supt V. Sivanathan said the five were on their way to their respective homes in Kampung Sulit and Kampung Basai not far from the scene of the accident.
He identified the five as Roling Korang, 34, Ugat Korang, 30, Jaffridin Ujin, 31, Albert Simon 29, and Hendryson Idolmaslee, 16.
Their bodies were sent to the Beluran hospital for post-mortem before their families claimed them for burial.
DSP Sivanathan said the lorry driver escaped with minor injuries.
It is believed that Roling was driving the car when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the fish-laden lorry that was heading towards northern Kudat.
Firemen from Sandakan took two hours to extricate the bodies from the wreckage.
In an unrelated accident, Kota Kinabalu city police are seeking public help to identify a vehicle that knocked down and killed a pedestrian along Jalan Kolam here during the wee hours of Christmas Day.
City police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said the pedestrian identified as Yunus Yusof, 37, was found dead at 1.45am on Tuesday.
“We believe a vehicle knocked him down and fled the scene,” he said.
