KLANG: A salesgirl allegedly smothered her newborn boy when she hid him under a mattress at a house in Jalan Meru.

However, her older sister, 27, noticed that she was behaving suspiciously and found the lifeless infant under the mattress after checking her bedroom.

The 24-year-old woman was detained by police to assist in investigation after the sister lodged a report.

North Klang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Shukor Sulong said the woman was believed to have delivered the baby at about 4pm yesterday.

“A police team went to the house and found the baby's umbilical cord in a plastic bag.

“The suspect claimed that the baby's father was a Bangladeshi who had returned to his country last March,” he said, adding that the woman had been sent to Tuanku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital for examination. - Bernama
