THE impending liberalisation of the Malaysian automotive industry will be carried out carefully to ensure that its impact on the economy is not severe, said International Trade and Industry Deputy Minister Datuk Jacob Dungau Sagan.
“Among steps taken included the reduction and abolition of import duties for automotive products under various Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) as well as lifting the freeze on factory licences of certain segments of the automotive industry that had been identified as having a strategic and high impact potential for the economy,” he told Azan Ismail (PKR-Indera Mahkota).
