23 pupils injured in bus-lorry accident

NILAI: Two students were seriously injured and 21 others sustained minor head and body injuries when the bus they were travelling in, enroute to a vacation in Perak, collided with a lorry in Jalan Batang Benar here Saturday.

The bus was ferrying 29 students aged between nine and 12, and three teachers from Mantin to Nilai when the crash involving the rock-laden lorry coccurred about 8.30am.

The students are from SK Petasih, Jelebu near here.

A police spokesman said the impact of the crash caused the bus to skid to the road-shoulder while the lorry fell on its side.

"At that juncture, two of the students were flung out of the bus and sustained serious head and body injuries.

Twenty-one other students sustained minor injuries," he said.

The spokesman said six students, three teachers and the bus driver escaped unhurt.

The lorry driver, who sustained slight injuries, was detained to facilitate investigations.

Nilai police chief Supt Mohd Yusoff Awang said the injured victims were sent to the Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban. - Bernama
