JOHOR BARU: A 32-year-old lorry driver pleaded not guilty at a Session’s Court here to charges of posing as a policeman, robbery and rape.
A. Sivakumar of Anjung Tawas Sinaran, Chemor, Perak was alleged to have committed the offences in Taman Senai Utama, Senai, in Kulaijaya here at around 2am on Sept 10.
He was alleged to have robbed two victims of cash and a mobile phone and taken away their identification cards.
He allegedly told the two victims to hand over their belongings and ordered them to report themselves at the Senai police station for a urine test.
Sivakumar was also charged with raping one of the victims, a 16-year-old girl, at a budget hotel in Kulaijaya at around 3.10am on the same day.
He claimed trial to all three charges that were read before Sessions judge Hassan Abdul Ghani who set bail at RM18,000 and Oct 12 for next mention.
DPP Mahadi Abdul Jumaat prosecuted while Sivakumar was represented by N. Gunalan.
Meanwhile, in the same court, two men were sentenced to four years’ jail and two strokes of the rotan each for robbery.
Factory worker M. Devan, 23, and welder S. Mariappan, 29, were found guilty of stealing two mobile phones from three friends at a park in Jalan Serindit, Taman Scientex, at around 10.45pm on July 24.
The duo approached the victims on their motorcycles and struck up a conversation before snatching the mobile phones from one of the victims’ pocket and hands.
One of the victims, Nik Muhammad Fikri Zharif Nik Zamzuri, 17, who was asked to give his victim impact statement, stated that the incident left him feeling afraid for his family’s safety.
