KOTA KINABALU: Enraged by a relative's constant nagging over his drinking habit, a man stabbed her and her cousin to death at Kg Cenderakasi in Kolombong near here.

The husband of one of the women, upon hearing about the 7pm attack on Monday from other family members, confronted the man. They fought, ending with both seriously injured and collapsing near the double-storey house.

The bloodbath started when Bibi Daud, in her 30s, told off the man, who was also a tenant, for consuming alcohol in the house.

The man initially ignored her but later turned violent and attacked Bibi with a knife.

Her cousin Mina, also in her 30s, who had just arrived home from work, was also attacked and stabbed when she tried to intervene.

Bibi's sister Faratih, 55, who rushed from the kitchen after hearing her sister's screams, was also attacked but managed to run out of the house unharmed.

Bibi's husband, known only as Aliun, 52, rushed home and confronted the man and in the ensuing fight, both were critically injured.

City police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said yesterday that police were still piecing together the events that led to the double murder.

He said police would question the men when they had recovered.

Faratih, who was still traumatised by the incident, said she was preparing dinner when she heard her sister's screams in one of the rooms.

“I ran there and tried to help Bibi when I saw blood gushing from her neck but the man came after me with a knife, so I ran away,” she said, shuddering.

Faratih said it was hard to believe that the man, a distant relative, would want to hurt her sisters after being accepted into the house only a few months ago.

“We helped him a lot. We also shared our food with him. It is really hard for me to accept that my sister and cousin have been killed by him,” Faratih said.

Another tenant, known as Jais, 20, said he was bathing when he heard shouts in the house and thought it was a family quarrel.

“However, I was shocked at what I saw after coming out of the bathroom,” he said.

Jais said he saw one woman lying in a pool of blood in a room, another sprawled in the living room and two men fighting outside.

He said both men collapsed and lay sprawled on the road about 100m from the house.
