BATU PAHAT: The people should be rational and level-headed in comparing Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat to evaluate which side is capable of leading the country after the next general election, Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said.
The MCA president said that Barisan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, had delivered a lot while Pakatan was only making empty promises and giving false hope to the people.
“They (Pakatan) keep telling the people that once they are in power, they will abolish toll rates, abolish PTPTN loans owed, car taxes and ensure a minimum RM4,000 monthly household income.
“The people would of course applaud such populist promises, but at what expense? It will bring the country to bankruptcy in two years and cause chaos in the country,” he said at the Batu Pahat Hong Yan Lion Dance Association's 44th anniversary celebrations in SJKC Cheng Siu here on Sunday.
Dr Chua said that the people should evaluate both sides and determine whether Pakatan was capable of taking care of Malaysians or that their promises were merely made for the sake of fishing for votes.
Besides that, Dr Chua said that statistics did not lie and this was evident with Malaysia's 5.4% growth in gross domestic product in the second quarter of the year.
“While many developed nations, including the United States and those in the eurozone, are experiencing economic slowdown, Malaysia is enjoying a steady economic growth and creating more job opportunities,” he added.
During the event, Dr Chua announced an allocation of RM10,000 for the association.
