KOTA BARU: Any decision to solve the long-standing spat over the oil royalty issue will be in line with the laws of the land, said Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamad.

He added that the Federal Government had its own way of settling the issue, which has been used by the PAS-led Kelantan Government to stir the people's sentiment.

Mustapa, who is also the International Trade and Industry Minister, was asked to comment on recent statements by senior Umno member and Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah urging Umno to solve the oil royalty issue before the 13th general election if it wanted to wrest control of the state from PAS.

“The Government has always been proactive when tackling issues brought up by the rakyat and one example that comes to mind is the tackling of inflation with the setting up of Kedai Rakyat 1Malaysia (KR1M).

“Whatever it is, the Government will find a civil approach to address the issue,” he told reporters at a gathering with media here on Wednesday night.

On an unrelated matter, Mustapa said Umno would aim to unseat PAS by attempting to win 23 state seats in the elections.
