KLANG: Kapar PKR division chief Azizi Ayob insists that he is not interested in the Sementa state constituency coordinator post, contrary to Kapar MP S. Manikavasagam's allegation.
Azizi said that since he was already a Klang municipal councillor, the division's political bureau, including Manikavasagam himself, agreed to appoint a third person to the post.
“I have never been interested in the post. So the question of being a sour grape doesn't arise,” he said.
On Monday, Manikavasagam told The Star that Azizi had slammed him for announcing his candidacy in the Kapar parliamentary seat because he was sore at not being appointed as Sementa constituency coordinator.
Manikavasagam also chided the division committee for having “coffeeshop” meetings.
Azizi claimed that it was at Manikavasagam's request that the political bureau meeting was held in a coffeeshop at 2am on June 20.
Azizi also reiterated his earlier claim on Monday that Manikavasagam had told “a blatant lie” to a Tamil daily by saying that the party had decided for the incumbent to defend his Kapar seat.
“It should be the top leadership's duty to decide the candidacy and make the announcement. Even the incumbent is not allowed to announce his candidacy,” he said.
When contacted, Manikavasagam said Azizi should raise his grouses to the state party leadership instead of the media.
Manikavasagam said that during the Kapar PKR annual general meeting last year, members had unanimously supported him to contest the Kapar parliamentary seat and Azizi the Sementa state seat.
