KUALA LUMPUR: Television addicts need no longer be couch potatoes with Astro On-The-Go, a new service that allows them to watch their favourite programmes using laptops and Android or iOS tablets and smartphones.
Astro chief executive officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan said Astro On-The-Go was all about “an individual's personal TV experience” which users could take with them.
“For instance, you can be enjoying live football matches on your iPad while you are travelling in your car.
“With Astro On-The-Go, everyone can watch, listen, and even read the very best of Astro, anywhere and anytime, over any device of their choice,” she said during the launch yesterday.
She said the new service also marked Astro's journey from providing entertainment in the living room to “all rooms within each and every household”.
Rohana said Astro aspired to grow its customer base by addressing the lifestyle needs of the household and its individuals.
“Astro On-The-Go also satisfies the demands of the younger generation and is the perfect complement to their lifestyle choices,” she said.
The new service allows customers to enjoy immediate access to Astro TV channels, live events, video-on-demand (VOD) and Catch Up TV.
The first phase of Astro On-The-Go will allow all Astro customers to experience the free preview until Aug 31.
This includes 11 TV channels (including CNN, Disney Channel, Astro Awani and Astro Xiao Tai Yang), VOD titles and live events.
They will also be able to catch all 31 UEFA Euro 2012 matches live from June 8 to July 1.
Phase Two begins on Sept 1, with only Astro B.yond IPTV customers or those with more than one decoder entitled to the service.
It will be extended to Android devices during this phase as well.
Phase Three offers Astro On-The-Go to all customers by year-end and subsequently to non-Astro customers in 2013.
