KUALA LUMPUR: Romance, drama and fine dining will meet at the gala dinner concert, An Evening With the Phantom.
The Grand Ballroom of JW Marriott Hotel, the venue for the performances, will be lavishly decorated to evoke the beautiful era of Paris on June 21 and 22.
The gala dinner concert, produced by Enfiniti Vision Media Sdn Bhd, will feature the vocal talents of Iranian-born Canadian performer Ramin Karimloo.
He gained international acclaim for playing the disfigured musical genius who terrorised the Paris Opera House in his pursuit for love in the West End staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic musical The Phantom Of The Opera.
An Evening with the Phantom's executive producer Tiara Jacquelina said yesterday the company aimed to provide high quality entertainment.
Actress Joanna Bessey, the show's director, said this was a rare opportunity for audiences to catch the “real” Phantom in the flesh.
The Phantom of the Opera, which was written by Webber based on the French novel Le Fantme de l'Opra by Gaston Leroux, opened in the West End in 1986 and ended last year after a successful 25-year run.
Karimloo, 33, made his debut in Malaysia last April when he performed alongside Stephen Rahman-Hughes and Simon Bailey in West End Stars In Concert at Istana Budaya.
He appeared in the West End production of the musical on September 2007, performing as the show's 21st anniversary Phantom.
Last October, he had three performances in the 25th anniversary production of the show at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The guest artiste is Australian opera singer Annalisa Kerriga, who is of Irish-Malaysian descent, who will play his musical protge and love interest, Christine.
Tickets for the black-tie event are available at RM1,000 per seat or RM10,000 per table.
There are 600 seats (60 tables) in total.
