KUALA LUMPUR: Mexico will be taking part for the first time in the fourth Latin American Festival, joining nine other Latin American countries on May 20.

BB Park will once again be the venue for a celebration of music, dance, food, and art, from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela, in the festival jointly organised by their respective embassies and the Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia.

Mexican Ambassador to Malaysia Jorge Alberto Lozoya, who spoke on behalf of the participating embassies at the launch, said the highlight would be the chance to experience the region's highly diversified gastronomy.

“Our delicacies are prepared, with the help of the Latin Ladies Association of Malaysia, because without them, there won't be any food,” he added with a laugh.

Social Service Committee member of the Latin Ladies Association Nathalie Nunez said last year, the funds collected were channelled to Unicef's efforts in Haiti.

This time, all proceeds will be donated to the Society of Interpreters for the Deaf (SID), a local non-profit organisation.

The Latin American Festival will be held from 11am to 6pm. Entrance is free.
