THE appointments of the Election Commission chairman, deputy chairman and its members should be similar to the appointments of judges of the Federal Court, Court of Appeal and High Court.
At present, such judges are appointed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the Prime Minister. Such a move would dispel the perception that the EC was not independent.
