Two weeks jail and fine for M'sian bird smuggler

SINGAPORE: A Malaysian odd-job worker was jailed two weeks for bringing in 24 hatchlings each crammed in a tiny box hidden in a pouch attached to his waist.

Lim Chia Ming, 55, was also fined $4,000 for causing unnecessary suffering to the hatchlings by confining them in spaces too small and restrictive, the Straits Times reported.
