MALACCA: The widow of BernamaTV cameraman Noramfaizul Mohd Nor, who was killed during a humanitarian aid mission in Somalia, has dedicated his Malacca state award to all pressmen.
Norazrina Jaafar, who received the posthumous award of Bintang Gagah Perkasa (BGP) on her husband's behalf, said she was glad that Noramfaizul was its sole recipient since it was created as an honorary medal in 1978.
“I'll always cherish the award as it holds fond memories of my husband.
“I am grateful to the Malacca Government for recognising him as a wira (hero).
“It is an acknowledgment of not only my husband but all media practitioners in the country,” she said after the Malacca Governor's 73rd birthday investiture ceremony here yesterday.
Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong was among the 266 people who turned up to receive their awards from Yang di-Pertua Negri Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob at Dewan Seri Negeri in Ayer Keroh.
An aide to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state government had insisted that Chua be listed as one of the recipients as a show of gratitude for his contribution towards the development of agro-based industries in Malacca.
The aide said it was proposed that Chua receive the Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka (DPSM), which carries the title Datuk.
Veteran singer Goh Eng Boon popularly known as Andre Goh received the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka (DMSM) with the title Datuk, describing the award as “priceless”.
