KUALA TERENGGANU: An 81-year-old woman was brutally assaulted by a masked assailant who broke into her home before escaping with a pair of earrings.
Manor Salleh was folding her clothes at about 5pm on Tuesday when a masked man broke into her home in Kampung Titian Hangus and grabbed her by the throat.
The suspect twisted the senior citizen's arm before brutally snatching her earrings and escaping.
The victim sustained multiple injuries including deep gashes on her ears as well as bruises on her arms and body.
“I feared for my life as the man behaved like an animal.
“He took my earrings as I don't have any other valuables,” said Manor, who lives in a rundown wooden house.
Manor said the earrings had sentimental value as they had been passed down through three generations of her family.
“If I had money, I would have willingly given it to him as I really loved the earrings.
“I hope the police can catch the culprit and return my earrings,” she said in between tears.
The victim's neighbour Wan Aziz Wan Awang, 59, came to her aid and rushed her to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital.
“She is just an old woman. There was no reason to hurt her,” he said.
Manor has since lodged a police report at the Chabang Tiga police station.
